Maintenance and repair work on the asphalt along the Challenge Sanremo cycling route continues. The first positive aspect of these road renovations is the improvement in athlete safety, a crucial aspect for the organizing committee and for all races in the Challenge Family circuit.
Furthermore, with the extensive cleaning work completed in recent days, the roads are even more accessible and safe for both ordinary and tourist traffic, as well as for the many cyclists training on the Riviera dei Fiori.
“Local government investments continue in the Challenge Sanremo routes, an event that is increasingly popular in the area – says Daniele Moraglia, Race Director of the event – Thanks to the synergy between local governments and the organizing committee, there is growing attention to the maintenance and cleanliness of the roads used for the international triathlon race. This benefit benefits all participants in the September 20-21 event and improves the well-being of those who use these roads every day for work, training, and tourism”.
Since 2022, particular attention has been paid to this aspect: the first result has been the complete renewal of the asphalt, for a total of over 15 km, in the following sections:
- of the cycle/pedestrian path in the municipalities of Sanremo, Taggia, Riva Ligure, and Santo Stefano al Mare;
- of the long climb that leads, after Vignai, to the top of the hill at Bajardo;
- of the descent from Ceriana to Poggio.
This year, work was carried out on the following sections:
- the connecting road from Pompeiana and Castellaro;
- the descent from Castellaro to Taggia;
- the climb to Vignai;
- the descent from Vignai to Bajardo;
- the descent from Ceriana to Poggio;
- the descent from Poggio;
for a total of over 10 km of new asphalt.
