New tarmac on The Vignai ascent thanks to the intervention of the Province of Imperia

#AllAboutTheAthlete is the motto of the Challenge Family that Challenge Sanremo fully embrace and apply in every area and circumstance. For this reason, thanks to the support of local institutions, important works have been carried out to improve the segment of the cycling course that crosses the municipalities of Taggia, Badalucco, Bajardo and Ceriana, the one that includes the challenging climb of Vignai (16.5 km) and the subsequent descent. Thanks to the intervention of the Province of Imperia, which has laid the new asphalt, the athletes will be able to compete in complete safety, driving along a road surface in excellent condition which will allow them to enjoy this magnificent part of race course.

“Last year, the asphalt was not in good condition, but for the Challenge Sanremo 2023 the situation will be deephly different – confirm Daniele Moraglia, race director – we managed to significantly improve the road surface, several kilometers of the climb were paved and athletes will be able to compete in safety, also generating an higher speed. The works are not finished yet – adds Moraglia -: within the first days of September, various sections of the descent will be tarmacked. We are working in full synergy with local institutions to make this part of the route even more beautiful”.
