Challenge Sanremo and the Symphony Orchestra join forces for an extraordinary weekend dedicated to Sanremo excellence

The weekend of the Challenge Sanremo is approaching, an international triathlon event which will attract over 800 athletes from all over the world to the Riviera dei Fiori, elected last year as the “Best new race” on the Challenge Family circuit.

The international flavor of the event on 23-24 September, one of the most important and renowned sporting events in the city of Sanremo and beyond, will represent an even more evocative and significant moment for the city and its excellence: the Symphonic Orchestra of Sanremo becomes a partner of the event which coincides with the international competition RPM Sanremo – Russian Piano Music International Competition, the International Piano Prize Scribian which aims to encourage excellence in the performance of Russian classical piano music, enhancing and supporting young people talents at the beginning of their careers, thanks also to the advice of world-famous jurors.

It seems that sport, in this case triathlon, and music, particularly when it comes to a competition for pianists, are distant universes, “instead we immediately found an understanding, looking together for the most interesting and constructive way to collaborate – underlines Daniele Moraglia, president of the Riviera Triathlon 1992 and Race Director of Challenge Sanremo – Among our objectives is to grow constantly and continuously to offer athletes an increasingly better context and organisation: to achieve this, we believe it is essential to network with the excellence of the area, among which, obviously, the Symphonic Orchestra stands out. I am truly honoured that, precisely on the occasion of an international competition, these extraordinary instrumentalists can and want to perform in a global sporting event: I am sure that they will give unique emotions to the athletes, who will add them to the long list of beautiful memories that they will take home from Sanremo, from Liguria, from Italy”.

On Sunday 24th, at 7.45 am, a few minutes before the start of the race, there will be a performance by the Sanremo Symphonic Orchestra which will perform Il Canto degli Italiani, better known as the Mameli anthem or the Italian national anthem.

The mix of music and triathlon will continue towards the end of the day: at the Sanremo Casino theatre, which will host the awards ceremony for the Challenge athletes and the final of the RPM competition, the Symphonic Orchestra will precede the call to the stage of the winners of the triathlon competitions with the performance of the Ode to Joy, the ode by Friedrich Schiller used by Ludwig van Beethoven in his Ninth Symphony.

Furthermore, the participants in the Challenge Sanremo, in addition to attending the finals of the RPM competition (it is necessary to communicate to the organization the desire to attend the show at the Casino Theater to receive the entrance ticket), will be able to vote and contribute to the election of the best pianist of the competition for 2023.

Music and sport… Those who frequent these two worlds know how many points in common there can be between these realities – says Filippo Biolè, president of the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra Foundation – We are happy that Challenge Sanremo, an international triathlon event, has met and ‘networked’ with the world of RPM, the international piano competition with which our Foundation has been celebrating the Russian repertoire for four years now. A competition that is registering a constant growth in interest thanks to the high quality of the participants, young pianists from all over the world who here in Sanremo, beyond the outcome of the competition, are living an experience that will enrich their career. At every stage of the competition – from the auditions to the final concert on Sunday – they are followed by internationally renowned professionals. This year, alongside M° Antonio Di Cristofano and M° Giancarlo De Lorenzo there will be Natalia Trull, Michel Bourdoncle, Gianluca Luisi, Bertrand Giraud, Maurizio Moretta”.
