After an intense organizational effort, but deeply rewarded by the smiles of the nearly 700 athletes who competed in the four races of the weekend, the curtain falls on the second edition of the Challenge Sanremo 2023.
A second edition of the international triathlon event which marked a clear change of pace compared to the launch edition (which was awarded as the best new race on the Challenge Family circuit) both from a strictly organizational point of view and in terms of safety.
“On this aspect, the coordination of all the actors and forces on the field was fundamental – says Daniele Moraglia, Race Director of Challenge Sanremo – This year the event has experienced a further moment of growth from a safety point of view with the the direct intervention of His Excellency the Prefect who, together with His Excellency the Quaestor, the Provincial managers of the Carabinieri, State Police, Guardia di Finanza, Port Authority, Provincial Police, Mayors and Commanders of the Municipal Police of the Municipalities Interested parties, the Province of Imperia, and various bodies ensured that the various ordinances were respected. I want to sincerely thank all these institutions who contributed significantly to the success of our event.”
The forces put forward by everyone were truly massive. On Sunday 24th, the day of the sprint triathlon and medium distance triathlon, we deployed: 6 boats, 2 jet skis, 4 canoes, 8 lifeguards as well as a dozen volunteers on the swimming course. Along the cycling route, 1 car and 4 motorbikes of the Traffic Police were involved, numerous police forces, 4 cars (2 at the start and 2 at the end of the race), 20 Technical Escort motorbikes, 4 vehicles for the recovery of the withdrawn athletes , 6 ambulances, 100 ASA and volunteers to man the cycling route as well as another 20 people at the refreshment points. On the running section, 30 volunteers worked on the running route to monitor the intersections and at the refreshment points. Furthermore, special thanks go to the guests of the RSA Anni Azzurri of Sanremo and Riva Ligure who provided a valuable contribution by numbering all the headphones, more than 600, used by the athletes competing during the Challenge Sanremo weekend.
16 motorbikes took care of the transport of the TV operators, photographers, accredited media and race judges.

“I would like to extend my thanks on behalf of the entire organizational team to the Province of Imperia for having asphalted numerous kilometers of provincial roads in the most dangerous and bumpy sections, allowing the athletes to cycle with greater safety and to enjoy this wonderful cycling route – adds Moraglia – A great job was done by the boys and girls of the Master’s Degree Course in Sports Management of the University of Rome ‘Foro Italico’, who worked hard during this training internship in an international event, and by the students of the Cassini High School in Sanremo who are giving us a hand for the second year. Finally, I must thank all the volunteers who guaranteed the bibs and race pack distribution services, the bag storage, and managed the awards ceremony, arrival, transition area and much, much more. Lastly, a warm thank you to my invaluable colleauges of core team, with infinite passion, work alongside me all year for the success of the Challenge Sanremo”.
